What is a Profile?

Profile elements and its child Extrusion elements' is one type of Solid. They do not influence the kinematic motion of the model. They do have mass and inertia, and influence the force at each Joint.

To add a Profile you need a sketch-loop in a Part. Add Profile adds two offset contours that are a copy of the sketch-loop.


Add Profile

Toolbar:

Solids toolbar > Add Profile [the toolbar is above the graphic-area]

Command:

Add menu > Mechanism sub-menu > Solids sub-menu > Add Profile

To add:

1.Click Solid toolbar > Add Profile icon

The Command-Manager starts. There is one selection-box.

2.Click, in the graphic-area, a sketch-element that is part of a closed sketch-Loop, or a closed Polyline

The sketch-element or Polyline is now in the selection-box in the Command-Manager.

3.Click OK-tiny-11-15 in the Command-Manager.

Note: Use: Visibility toolbar > Show Model in Mechanism to see the Extrusion Solid

Assembly-Tree:

A Profile element becomes a child to a Part, and
An Extrusion becomes a child to the Profile element.

Notes:

You can add many Profiles to the same sketch-loop.

A Cam-Follower must be a Profile element. You select the Profile Element with Add 2D-Cam

Graphic-Area:

A Profile and Extrusion are added to the sketch-loop.

The Profile has two contours, which are offset from each other.

The default position of one of the Profile contours is coplanar with the sketch-loop.
The default colour of the Profile contours is Pink.

The Extrusion is a Solid that shows between the Profile contours.

The default colour of the Extrusion [Solid] is Blue.

Edit the position of the Profile contours, the colour of the Extrusion, and other parameters with the Extrusion dialog-box.

To Edit:

Edit the Extrusion Element

1.Click the Profile the Assembly-Tree or the graphic-area

The Profile and its child Extrusion element show in the Selection-Window.

In the Selection-Window:

2.Right-click the Extrusion Element
3.Click 'Edit element' in the contextual-menu.

The Extrusion Element dialog-box opens.

To Delete:

Delete the Profile Element

1.Click the Profile the Assembly-Tree or the graphic-area

The Profile and its child Extrusion element show in the Selection-Window.

In the Selection-Window:

2.Right-click the Profile Element
3.Click Delete in the contextual-menu.

The Profile and the Extrusion Element are deleted from the model.
