When Radial Clearance ≠ 0, we calculate for you a Cam-Profile that is offset from the true Cam-Profile.

Applications:

•Groove-Cam: Clearance to fit a Follower-Roller bearing in the track of a Groove-Cam between the Cam-Flanks (typically equivalent to an F8 fit)

•Conjugate-Cam: Clearance to compensate for assembly tolerances with a Conjugate Cam assembly.

•Rough-Cut: “Negative Clearance” to export cam coordinates for a rough-cut of a cam, before its final cut.

Notes:

a)You can also edit this parameter in the Cam-Coordinates dialog.

b)Barrel Follower-Roller bearings (typically a 500mm radius across the width of the bearing) frequently have a relatively large negative tolerance bias (e.g. ). Even a Radial Clearance = 0 may be too much clearance.

This parameter sets a limit, entered as a percentage, for the ratio of the Cam-Profile's Radius-of-Curvature() to the Follower-Roller's Radius ( ), calculated at each point along the Cam-Profile.

IF: (at a point along the Cam-Profile):

THEN: Cam-Profile is RED ( at the points that are less than Cam ROC Soft-Limit (% )

Example

Cam-Profile RED = Warning

Follower-Roller's Radius = 20mm

Cam-Profile's Radius of Curvature = 16.4mm (at a point along the Cam-Profile)

Cam RoC 'Soft-Limit' ( % ) = 100%

The Cam-Profile is RED where the Radius-of-Curvature of the Cam-Profile is less than the Radius of Follower-Roller.

By default, we calculate and display 2D-Cams from 0 to 360 of the Master Machine Angle (MMA).

Edit these parameters to calculate and display the 2D-cam over a different range of the MMA:

•Cam-Start - the first point

•Cam-Start + Cam-Range - the last point

Examples:

•When a Cam rotates 2 × in a machine-cycle:

Cam Start= 0 ; Cam Range = 180

•To calculate and display a Slot-Cam from one end to the other end, and only in one direction

Roller's Dynamic Equivalent Load = Equivalent Load × Safety Factor (Cam) × Safety Factor (Cam)

E.g.: If Safety-Factor (Cam) = 1.1 ; Safety-Factor (Roller) = 1.21

The Safety-Factor you enter should consider at least the following:

•What drives the Cam-Shaft? Is it a constant speed servomotor or a single-cylinder, 2-stroke, petrol engine?

•What does the Follower drive? Is it a paper-tucker, or a forging, stamping press?

•What is the stiffness, rigidity, inertia, natural-frequency, of the load? Is the load at the end of a long, thin shaft, or a short, stub spindle?

•What are the motion-laws? - Do they include jerk continuities, or acceleration discontinuities?

•How much backlash or damping is there in the Cam and Follower mechanical systems? Do they use precision Planetary gear-boxes with helical gears, or open, forged spur gears? Preloaded bearings (low backlash but low damping, or slide-ways (more backlash but good damping).
